The California Secretary of State’s Business Programs Division is recruiting to fill multiple permanent, full-time Program Technician II position(s). We are seeking dependable, innovative, and talented individuals ready to grow through professional development while bringing their unique expertise to our team. This role offers a unique blend of office operations and statewide adventure. While participation is not required, interested employees may have the opportunity to travel throughout the state to staff our California Secretary of State Pop-Up Shop events. These volunteer-based events allow our team to provide essential in-person services to Californians while building vital skills like adaptability and multicultural awareness.

What does the Business Programs Division do?

We provide a wide range of services and process various filings in support of our customers, including:

  • Corporation, limited liability company and partnership registration, change, and termination filings.
  • Trademark and service mark registration and change filings.
  • Uniform Commercial Code financing statements and notices of tax liens and change filings.
  • Maintenance of the Advance Health Care Directive Registry, Domestic Partners Registry, and Immigration Consultants Registrations.
  • Oversee notary commissions within California, as well as authenticating the signatures of California public officials and notaries public. Additionally, we provide customer service to our customers via online, phone, email, and in person and provide records of our filings online.
What will your duties be at the Business Programs Division?
In support of our vision and mission, you will play a vital role for our division by assisting our customers with the processing and servicing of various filings and requests. Under the general supervision of a Supervising Program Technician II or III, your duties may include:
  • Review and examine various documents, filings, and requests to ensure compliance with legal statutes and regulations.
  • Process records and information requests and provide status information on documents, filings, and requests.
  • Interact professionally with the public at the public counter, by telephone, or email regarding routine inquiries, filing requirements, documents, and fees. Research and respond to routine customer inquiries by mail, telephone, or email.

  • Demonstrate consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, Agency personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn new duties.
  • Knowledge of and experience with all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Punctuality and good attendance are essential.

Working Conditions

The Business Programs Division supports the importance of work-life balance through measures such as Telework and Alternate Work Week Schedules (e.g., 4/10/40 schedule consisting of four 10-hour days and one scheduled day off per week and 9/8/80 schedule consisting of eight 9-hours days and one 8-hour day in a two-week period with one scheduled day off every other week), both based on SOS policies and business needs. In addition to these opportunities, on-site amenities include a cafeteria, childcare center, and bicycle parking.
